As fog of war settles in

As fog of war settles in
And darkness overtakes the light
The nightbird’s song brings hope
As the thunder rolls
And gears grind slowly on
The hero boldly rises by day and night
As the fire rains
And silence is cracked
The people’s will blooms in the dark
The silence becomes song
The seeds take root
The light pushes back
The hero rises

She Stands

Her heart lays broken
In tatters before her
She longs
For someone, anyone
To come along and mend her heart
To piece it together

Her tears aren’t new
She’s cried them before
She mourns
For someone, everyone
Who fought for and defended her heart
To be a beacon

Her pain runs deep
She’s carries it well
She hurts
For everyone, all of us
People who say they love her
Fight and bicker over her
Another piece of her heart broken

Do they see she stands strong
Through it all
For them, all of them
Waiting, longing, yearning
For them to truly love
As she truly loves all of them

She stands
Her light still shining
As her heart lays broken
Waiting… for us to mend it

Dark Days

Dark days too often come
And I, determined not to dwell, press on
My mind fights against the good it knows
Wielding deadly weapons
Thoughts and words, and dark creations
They swirl

These thoughts and horrors I could share
And I, determined not to dwell, press on
My weight and burden is mine alone

One day I hope they will see
Alas, I doubt

And, I press on
In the darkest of days

Firsts

There are many firsts in life…
They occur only once…
yet happen over and over again
First breath
First tooth
First step
First birthday
First day of school
First crush
First kiss
First car
First job
There is one first more significant than all the others…
One we search for,
stumble into,
are surprised by…
First love
It is a first that brings a swirl of feelings,
thoughts,
dreams
beyond any other first
In a long list of firsts,
Love stands apart
